Since the beginning of time women of colour have come to believe that coiled-kinky textured hair cannot grow past a certain length or that it has more to do with your DNA than the actual science of hair. This is something that I have found not to be true from years of experimenting and using myself as a guinea pig. I applied science to something that many people have deemed baffling. I have done this and compiled a list of things you must do in order to retain length and maintain health when growing natural hair. These are my most important tips and will elaborate further in future posts.
1. Massage your scalp under running water
Use shower time as an opportunity to refresh and detangle your hair, and do it as often as you can. Work with the natural flow of your hair and not against it, loosening sebum from the roots and working it down the length of your hair. You will feel a slippery texture with this process the more you do it. The oil will ooze out of your follicles and create a special protective barrier around your hair. This barrier will work as a sun block, styling product, and humidity shield. Run your fingers through your hair from roots to the ends in a downward motion framing the face, it's not easy at first but you will understand through practice. The more you repeat this process the more your hair becomes trained and cooperative. Use styling products that are "curly-girl" friendly to compliment the sebum.
2. Do not use Shampoo
I'm sorry to burst your bubble if you thought shampoo was a necessity. We're here to tell you that it's not. If you wash or rinse your hair on a regular basis you will see immediate changes in your hair texture and the way it reacts to water. Avoiding shampoo allows you natural oils to travel down the lengths of your hair to give your hair the perfect hold, shine, and manageability. People will say you need to clarify your hair but if you follow a consistent regimen rinsing your hair you won't need to. Rinsing under warm water to keep my sebum from building up at the roots gives me ultimate shine and maximum curl definition.
3. Finger Detangle
Your fingers are your most natural styling tools. Many naturals have difficulty grasping the concept of finger detangling, but those who stay consistent reap the benefits of this valuable technique. The majority of your tangles should melt away with the flow of the water so its all about parting your hair in the right sections and letting the water flow down the length of your hair. You will know if your hair is flowing in the right direction by the way it reacts to the water. If it:s in the wrong direction the hair will tangle and you will get scary spider knots. If the hair is flowing in the right direction the water will drench the section filling the hair with moisture and laying the cuticle flat for a smooth and shiny finish. As a result of doing this correctly, drying time is lessened, shrinkage is minimized, and hair is shiny and moist to the touch.

Every texture needs its own specific hair care methods, and for us naturals, twisting or setting the hair is important for maintaining our style and length. Although with the methods described you begin to see less shrinkage, you still want to have the least amount of frizz possible. In order to do this you twist the length of the hair from the roots and when it is dry you can free it and watch it expand through the day. Sebum is undisturbed with this method and is able to dry and contribute to the hold your styling product provides. With all the extra love your hair will be getting you'll have a new cutting edge healthy look in no time!
6. Night time routine
As your hair needs love to be healthy and fresh for the day, you also need to prepare yourself for the night so that you don:t constantly need to do your hair every day. I know the struggle of either wanting to be cute for a little bed-tine cuddle, or being too tired to wrap your hair and take off make-up before bed. Luckily, after waking up enough times with troll-doll fringe and fried edges. I have finally come to appreciate discipline, and the debate whether to protect my hair at night or to be young will and free is a thing of the past. Always remember to use a silk or satin bonnet or wrap at night. Your hair will thank you in the morning.

We not only recommend that you incorporate this fruit into your daily diet but that you also use this recipe to see ultimate effects and benefits for your skin. Squeeze a teaspoon of pineapple juice and turmeric for an excellent exfoliator. Also applying the juice alone will be juice as effective, rinse after 10 minutes of application and moisturize as usual.

Honey is a reliable and very useful resource, and we should strive to protect bees and respect them. Along with its greater attributes, honey has great properties for the purpose of vanity and skin health. Apply one layer of honey to skin and let sit for 15 minutes, we advise you stay indoors at this time. After the 15 minutes are up rinse with warm water to reveal lighter, nourished and more radiant skin. Honey is a humectant which draws moisture into the skin for supple and glowing skin. Do this twice weekly for maximum benefits.
